Move beyond buildings to communities and cities
Australians understand the challenges faced
in our cities, such as transport congestion,
housing affordability, population growth and
climate change. But until recently, all three tiers
of government and industry were unable to
agree on nationally-consistent benchmarks for
sustainable, liveable, productive communities –
and how to deliver them.
In mid-2012, the GBCA launched the Green Star
– Communities rating tool, which marked the
beginning of a new revolution which will address
Australia’s urban challenges through practical
tools and a systematic approach. Green Star –
Communities provides best practice benchmarks
for delivering adaptable, liveable, prosperous
and sustainable cities, communities and precincts
across Australia. The rating tool will drive action ‘on
