CCTV SYSTEM DESIGN IS
THE KEY TO SUCCESSFUL
IMPLEMENTATION
Successful implementation of a CCTV system
as part of a broader “safe community”
program is a challenge facing most local and
state government organisations in Australia.
The challenges are multi–faceted and require
a level of planning that must take into
consideration a wide range of stakeholder
needs, from local law enforcement
through to local business owners and not
least, community expectations.
Whilst CCTV technology may have become
more accessible and affordable, the
complexity in implementation has not and
the desire to implement a system quickly
and cost effectively often means that a
compromise in quality ensues. The need for
a “quick fix” should be considered against
a systematic design approach that includes
a needs analysis; this information should
then drive the design and implementation
program. Like all major infrastructure
projects the intended use of the system
must be considered and the desired
outcomes must be assessed before you
engage the installer or even consider going
