SA HEALTH
REPATRIATION HOSPITAL
DESIGNA SABAR were recently
contracted to upgrade several Car Parks
at the South Australian Department
of Health Repatriation Hospital. There
was a major need to install technology
in order to improve security and assist
with compliance. The Project has helped
the Hospital with their needs and also
implemented technology that can provide
data to assist them in gaining a better
understanding of their Car Parking
requirements going forward.
• The site required: 250 solar powered
sensors, 8 solar powered mobile
gateways, 2 enforcement handheld
devices with bluetooth printers.
• Reason for implementation: To get a better
understanding of customer usage of each
Car Park including average stay time.
• DESIGNA SABAR was awarded the
contract after being involved with the
evaluation process which included a
shortlisted tender of 3 providers. All
shortlisted providers offered visible
(surface mounted) sensors as in ground
sensors were eliminated immediately due
to the imitations of that technology.
As the exclusive distributor of frogparking
DESIGNA SABAR chose to use Sensors which
offered triple detection technology. Low
maintenance costs are e feature through the
use of solar panels and solar gateways.
Other features of the sensors include;
compliance with the Road standards
for height and reduced trip hazard over
competitors products; improved PR by having
surface mounted devices which are visible to
the Hospital visitors; the ability to integrate
as a turnkey solution with sensors, permits,
processing modules, enforcement handheld
devices; GPS location services; and cloud
based technology so no onsite IT resources
have been required.
The Project will help to implement a range
of new technologies and also offer solutions
for future plans and development including
a variable message sign to direct Customers
to specific Car Parks based on the expected
stay time, implementation of staff and
contractor permits including designated Car
Parks for each and a Smartphone App for
potential paid parking to remove the need
for ticket machines and boom gates.
The benefits for the Hospital have included:
• Improved travel flow around the site;
• Consideration of timed parking (specific to
each Car Park based on average stay time);
• Improving site utilisation for contractor
management and maximise compliance
through the utilisation of parking
enforcement modules;
• Significant improvement in the
compliance rate;
• Positive Customer feedback following
implementation of specific time restricted
areas based on estimated stay time;
• Improved bay availability by removing
illegal permit holders and university
students from neighbouring sites; and
• It has also helped give a better
understanding to the Hospital of what is
needed for future planning of their Car
Parking needs.

TESTIMONIALS
“As one of DESIGNA SABAR’s first
Customers in 1998 to use DESIGNA
equipment in our Multi-storey Car
Park, we have been more than
satisfied with the robustness of
the equipment, ease of operation,
upgrades and servicing, technical
support and parts back up offered by
DESIGNA SABAR. Ease of use and
customer satisfaction in the use of the
equipment is very important to us.”

“I can and will say DESIGNA SABAR
are by far the most professional group
that I have experienced in this field
from the Managing Director Paul
McIlvride through to all the Technical
Support deployed to the site.
Our job was relatively small by
industry standards and we messed
them around somewhat due to issues
beyond our control, but we have not
suffered any diminution of support or
interest from the size of our contract or
the remote location.
We are very pleased with the decision to
commit to DESIGNA SABAR which by
the way was not based on price alone.
We actually chose them over lower
bidders based on their service through
the period of development of the
specification and the tender process.
In summary from where I sit, they are
highly recommended.”
