Wycliffe Well – located on the
Stuart Highway 380 kilometres north of
Alice Springs and 130 kilometres south of
Tennant Creek in the Northern Territory,
Australia – lays credible claims to being
Australia’s foremost UFO hotspot, and is
listed on many websites as one of the top
five sites for ET craft sightings in the
world. Its history coincides with that of
the post-WWII phenomenon in general,
with hundreds of UFO sightings having
been reported in the area during that
seventy-odd year period. Locals say you
have to be unlucky not to experience a
sighting here.
Several points set Wycliffe Well
apart from other sighting locations: it is
quite close to the Devils Marbles, also
known as the Sacred Site of Karlu Karlu to
the Original People; it is in a sparsely
populated region, hence it would be
unlikely that ETs would be visiting to
observe or manipulate humanity; and it is
especially notable for the sheer volume of
UFO sightings year after year.
The town today consists of not
much more than a roadhouse, a bar, a 25
hectare tourist park which includes a
recreational lake for fishing and boating…
plus three life-size Alien figures and a
large model UFO. It began as a watering
point along the stock route for the
Overland Telegraph Line in the 1860s.
During World War II the Well became a
market garden centre to service troops and,
at the end of the war, two soldiers stayed
on to continue selling vegetables and
garden produce to Alice Springs.
