the forefront of what has become known as
Exopolitics. According to the exonews.org
website: “The Exopolitics Institute News
Service (ExoNews) is dedicated to
bringing to public attention news
concerning extraterrestrial life and its
public policy implications. The primary
mission of ExoNews is to promote public
debate and awareness of exopolitics which
has been defined as "an interdisciplinary
scientific field, with its roots in the
political sciences, that focuses on research,
education and public policy with regard to
the actors, institutions and processes,
associated with extraterrestrial life, as well
as the wide range of implications this
entails through public advocacy and newly
emerging paradigms." The Raelian Movement recently
asked a number of countries to consider
hosting the embassy project, and
apparently several have indicated an
interest in allocating space for the
endeavour, with preliminary discussions
already under way. They say, on their

Practical steps that might be more
accessible to the lay person include getting
involved in setting up embassies to liaise
with ETs during and after First Contact.
One organization making preparations
along these lines is the Raelian Movement.
They say that before ETs can be publicly
acknowledged, we humans need to first
demonstrate our desire to invite them, by
building an appropriate embassy in
advance of their arrival. Ideally, they say,
it should be built in a neutral location,
granted ‘rights of extraterritoriality’ and
guaranteed neutral air space. Raelians

The Downside
Theoretical physicist Stephen
Hawking has opened up with his fears
about meeting ET and warned the world to
be hesitant about making contact with
alien life. Noting that one particular
planet, Gliese 832c, potentially had alien
life, he cautioned humans to be cautious.
“One day, we might receive a signal from
a planet like this, but we should be wary of
answering back,” he said in the
documentary, Stephen Hawking’s
Favourite Places. “Meeting an advanced
civilisation could be like Native
