Day 1 : Arrive Auckland On arrival you will be transferred to your downtown accommodation . New Zealand ’ s largest city , blending harbour islands and Polynesian culture , Auckland has a vibrant city centre .
Day 2 : Auckland sightseeing Experience the best of Auckland today . Visit the highlights the inner city offers before heading out to the untamed coastline of the rugged West Coast with deep black beaches and subtropical rainforests .
Day 3 : Auckland – Paihia , Bay of Islands Travel north today to the Bay of Islands . You will find white sandy beaches , cosy coves and a sea pieced by over 150 islands .
Day 4 : Paihia – Auckland This morning join a Dolphin Cruise to the Hole in the Rock before returning to Auckland this afternoon .
Day 5 : Auckland – Waitomo Caves – Rotorua Travel south through the rich farmland of the Waikato onto Waitomo Caves . Join a guided tour through the long galleries and lofty chambers of the Caves including a boat ride through the glowworm grotto , illuminated by thousands of tiny lights from the glowworms . We have the option today to visit the Hobbiton movie set ( extra cost ).
Day 6 : Rotorua sightseeing Enjoy a half day sightseeing tour of Rotorua , including a visit to Te Puia and the Maori Arts and Crafts Institute where you can view mighty geysers and boiling mud pools . Visit Rainbow Springs for a unique showcase of flora and fauna . Watch the interactive Agrodome sheep show and ride the Skyline gondola , before experiencing a traditional Maori show and Hangi ( feast ).
Day 7 : Rotorua – Wellington ( flight not included ) Transfer to the airport today for your flight to the capital city of New Zealand , Wellington . Entrance is included to the Te Papa National Museum .
Day 8 : Wellington – Picton Before leaving the city by ferry across the Cook Strait , you will enjoy a morning city tour covering Wellington ’ s historic landmarks including the Beehive and Parliament Buildings .
Day 9 : Picton – Christchurch Join the Trans Coastal Pacific train journey . Along 98 kilometres of ruggedly beautiful coastline , you ’ ll get astonishingly close to the surging Pacific Ocean and steeply rising Kaikoura Ranges .
Day 10 : Christchurch sightseeing This morning ’ s city tour covers the central city highlights including the Botanical gardens , the Avon River and the Bridge of Remembrance , before heading out to the surrounding areas for spectacular views over the city .
Day 11 : Christchurch – Dunedin Travel by scheduled coach service along the plains of South Canterbury with a colourful patchwork of fields flanked by the dramatic peaks of the Southern Alps .
Day 12 : Dunedin sightseeing Start the day with a one hour city tour of Dunedin , before departing for the Otago Peninsula to see the Yellow-eyed and Blue Penguins .
Day 13 : Dunedin – Queenstown Join a scheduled train and coach combination service to the four season resort town of Queenstown .

Day 18 : Franz Josef at leisure Today is free to explore or join a local activity . Day 19 : Franz Josef – Christchurch Depart Franz Josef by coach , joining the historic TranzAlpine train in Greymouth .
