2014 Team Previews

Shasta College: In 2001, Shasta College reinstated its wrestling program, and Coach Max Burch was picked to guide the Knights. Since that time, the Knights’ wrestling team has produced three State champions, 12 All Americans, and 28 California State CCCAA place finishers. This will be his 13th season in charge of the wrestling team.

Coach Burch, returns a state placewinner who will challenge everyone in the state to win a state title this upcoming season. Sophomore, Thomas Cross (Lower Lake H.S) finished six in the state tournament at 184 pounds. He won the North Region tournament, were he defeated last season state champion in the semifinals. Cross and Wesley Jensen (Foothill H.S) who placed 8th in the North Region, will be the team leaders for the Knights.

Returning Members who will battle to represent the Knights in the varsity squad are; Ward Beecher (Upper Lake H.S) 141 pounds, Evan Dahlquist (Foothill H.S) 285 pounds, Matt Engle (Clear Lake H.S) 149 pounds, Nathan Feitosa (Baldwin H.S, Hawaii) 174 pounds, Jared Foley (Ukiah H.S) 149 pounds, Steven Groce (Yamhill-Carlton H.S, Oregon) 165 pounds, Lonnie Keyser (Enterprise H.S) 285 pounds, Cameron Leary (Chico H.S) 125 pounds, Nicholas Mai (Upper Lake H.S) 149 pounds, Steven Middaugh (Yamhill-Carlton H.S, Oregon) 133 pounds, Bill Robinson (Upper Lake H.S) 174 pounds, James Scott (Paradise H.S) 125 pounds and Robert Simondi (Upper Lake H.S) 149 pounds.

Skyline College: With no returning state qualifiers and or state placewinners, Coach James Haddon, will look for support in North Region placewinners Manny Borrego (Terra Nova H.S) and Justin Osuna (Alisal H.S) both wrestled at 125 pounds and met in the 7th place match. Borrego came out victorious with a 1-0 win over his teammate. And the rest of the squad from the 2013 season.

Other returning members; Josh Tsan (George Washington H.S) 125 pounds, Ken Lu (McAtee H.S) 125 pounds, Brady Huang (Burton H.S) 141 pounds, J.J De Santo (Burlingame H.S) 149 pounds, Tony Silva (Gilroy H.S) 157 pounds, Simon Ma (George Washington H.S) 157 pounds, Angelo Goumenidis (El Camino H.S) 165 pounds and Derek Peralta (Live Oak H.S) 184 pounds.

The name of the governing body responsible for oversight of intercollegiate athletics at California community colleges is the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA). The purpose of the CCCAA is to establish and oversee the enforcement of the rules and regulations and to guide the administration of the intercollegiate athletic programs of the California community colleges. The membership organization functioning under the jurisdiction of the Board is the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA).

The CCCAA Board of Directors serves as the ultimate authority and provides operational oversight of the CCCAA. The Board is the policy-making body of the organization and, as such, approves all changes to the CCCAA Constitution. The CCCAA Board of Directors defines the direction of the CCCAA, supervises the CCCAA Executive Director, and manages the CCCAA finances.
