Golf Cart Guru • This article will be a bit of a continuation of my last contribution. We got another question similar to a previous one addressing a “no-run” type of problem. Q: It’s from Bob in Houston TX. Help! Every so often my 1996 E-Z-GO TXT golf cart will intermittently stop. Other times, my golf cart wouldn’t go - it would just make a clicking sound. Where should I start? As I’ve said before I don’t wish to critique the question but we need a bit more info before we can offer worthwhile help. We’re missing a few things. Primarily what we need is make, model, year, and drive type. Here’s what we have and don’t have. Make, E-Z-GO. Model, TXT, Year, 1996. The important part we’re missing is drive type. In 1996 the E-Z-GO TXT electric was available with two different drive systems, Series or as they called it “non DCS” and DCS. But we have another option. There is also a gas powered version. I’m going to stick with what I started last article and give you a bit more. Start with an examination of the obvious things. A quick careful examination of connections might reveal something simple. Remember what I’ve said several times. BE CAREFUL you can easily short something and cause a catastrophic problem. If you are not comfortable with it DON’T TOUCH. It’s surprising how often a corroded, damaged or broken wire can be the whole problem. If you are able, look at the cable attachments on the motor. Many times these go unchecked during a diagnosis. The Is your golf car making a funny sound? Do you have a repair question? Need to know how to install something? Ask the Golf Car Guru. Try charging the car. This will help you in several ways. If the car charges properly you know all the interconnecting battery cables are ok. You’ll know your batteries are at least functional and should propel the cart for a few minutes at minimum. If you have a volt meter you can follow one of several tests I’ve included in earlier articles like “voltage flow” “Simple series” or others. You may be able to solve your own problem. Now, I’ll encourage all of you, please include as much info as possible when you are writing a question. There’s no limit on the length of your email. The more specific you are the more specific I can be. Please be careful and have fun. . • Have a question? Send it to Tim at: [email protected] AUGUST JULY 2018 33
