M Then & Now Photographed by Brandon Williams feature story Jilᄙ Bramblett then: MY NAME: Jill Mitchell MY SCHOOL: A.C. Flora High School, Columbia, South Carolina ME THEN: Because I was very social, I enjoyed hang- ing out with my friends, as well as being involved in sports and other high school activities. Swimming was one of my passions growing up. I was a swimmer with the Columbia Swim Club and I participated in the Ju- nior Olympics. I also played basketball, volleyball and recreational softball. I served on several school com- mittees, including the Miss Falcon Pageant Committee and the Merchandising Committee. Aside from my high school activities, I took lessons from a modeling agency in town during my sophomore year. I modeled for Berry’s on Main and was in several different fashion shows for several retailers, including JB White (out of business now), Davidsons (which is now Macy’s) and others. MY STYLE: I came from a retail background and was always trying to wear the latest fashion. Unfortunately, Go-Go boots, bell bottom pants, mini-skirts, and Can- dies shoes were all part of that wardrobe. 98 AUGUST 2017 1972 WHAT I LOVED MOST ABOUT HIGH SCHOOL: I loved the changing times, being with so many great friends, and meeting new people. A TYPICAL FRIDAY NIGHT: For me, a typical Friday night involved gathering with friends at LaBrasca’s for pizza and going to high school football games. MY DREAMS FOR THE FUTURE: I wanted to leave my mark on the world by helping those who could not help themselves, especially children and animals. MY FAVORITE SUBJECTS: My favorite subjects were drama and creative writing. HOW I THINK MY CLASSMATES WOULD HAVE DESCRIBED ME: They would have described me by using three F’s: friendly, focused, and fun. (L) Modeling for Berry’s On Main MY MOST PRIZED ACCOMPLISHMENT: Graduating high school early and attending the University of Georgia were my greatest accomplish- ments. WHAT WAS MOST IMPORTANT TO ME: Being with family and friends, having fun, and going to college were the most important things in my life. continued SHEMAGAZINE.COM
