Royal British Legion Nerja Branch In September we held a concert by the Cowbridge Male Voice Choir in the Caves Restaurant and what a splendid evening it proved to be. The amazing resonance of the combined voices, a beautiful selection of Welsh songs and popular music enthralled everyone who attended. After the concert they entertained us with readings, poems and banter. A thoroughly enjoyable evening and one we would love to repeat. A bonus was the €820 raised that will go to our Poppy Appeal. Part of this was from the excellent raffle, thanks to everyone who donated prizes, in particular to Thai Pas, a new little restaurant opposite the Lighthouse in Torrox and worth a visit. Opened a few months ago the Thai food is authentic and reasonably priced. As a new business in Spain where it is often difficult to progress, we really appreciate their donation to our raffle. The new British barber also on Avda del Faro in Torrox donated a voucher to the raffle and is much appreciated. dancing and raffle. So if you would like to join us please obtain your tickets from Hamish call 615 550 886 or email: [email protected]. As tickets are limited don’t delay. The Remembrance Day event this year is at the Al Andalus hotel (not the Caves Restaurant) and will include readings, poems and music. We are tremendously grateful to Tom Robinson our musical director who works tirelessly with the Remembrance Choir to provide us with the beautiful performances that have come to mark our Commemoration of Remembrance Day. This event is non religious, and everyone is very welcome. Lunch afterwards is by prior booking only, call Vera: 95 296 7200, or email: [email protected]. Our branch is very friendly and welcoming, we aren’t at all concerned about nationality, religion or lack of it. We always appreciate the support we get from friends and members but like all charities we need new people to join us and maintain the impetus that enables us to donate so generously to the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal and the Personnel Recovery Centre in Edinburgh. Though no longer headline news from Afghanistan or Iraq our troops are still involved in many countries round the world and working in many different ways to maintain peace and improve the lives of many. Help us to help them. DOROTHY GRAVES NERJA BRANCH The annual Poppy Walk took place on Sunday, October 15 and was well attended. The walk from the hotel Andalus to the El Puente Restaurant via the Balcon de Europa was a sponsored walk to raise funds for the 2017 Poppy Appeal. On November 10, we are holding the Poppy Ball at the Caves Restaurant, once again with the Los Romanos Branch. This year looks like being a fun event with Barry Marx and the “Juke Box Bandits”. Surprisingly the cost of the tickets remains the same as it has been for the past 14 years!......€35 for canapes and drinks on arrival, a three course meal with wine, and coffee, 58
