Almijara Bowls Club

On Friday September 29 , the Almijara Bowls Club held a play-off final to determine the winner of the Summer League . This league is a new venture for the club and it was well supported with two divisions of 11 players competing for the trophy . Each competitor had to play 10 4-wood singles matches and many of the games were very close .
Congratulations to Graham Williams and Bob Allaway for winning their respective divisions , both being unbeaten during the season . Graham won 18-13 in the playoff to become the first Summer Singles League Champion . The Committee are very grateful to Nigel Locke for organising the league and also keeping the records up to date on a weekly basis .
Love A Child charity
The Love A Child Foundation would like to inform all its donors and supporters that John Margetson and Lynne Carr- Jones will be retiring from the foundation at the end of this year . The foundation has now completed all its overseas projects and will not be taking on any further projects or sponsors . We have a small number of children that are still sponsored and we will continue to support these children . They would like to take this opportunity to thank Nicole Brouwers and her wonderful shop ‘ Pocapecunia ’ for the tremendous support that she has given the foundation since its inception ; without Nicole and Ted ’ s help many of our projects would not have come to fruition . Nicole of course will continue with the shop and will be supporting other national and international charities .
60s fundraiser
The fundraiser in aid of the Volunteer Translators who work at the Nerja Ambulotorio and Vélez-Málaga Hospital was a great success last month . Pauline ,
the organiser , would like to thank everyone who supported the event at El Varadero Bar ( The Boatyard ), and all who helped on the day to ensure everything went smoothly . Pauline would also like to send a big thank you to everyone who kindly donated the fantastic raffle prizes and of course all those who attended . The event raised a fantastic € 1,890 for a great cause . Well done .

Lost parrot
A reader who lives in the Pago La Galera area between Nerja and Frigiliana has asked us if we can help find his African Grey Parrot , which got spooked by a
paraglider and managed to escape last month . It ’ s likely that she will approach someone so hopefully someone reading this might have her and be able to let the owner know . Welcome back
We are saying a warm welcome back to Jo and Richard Collick who have returned to the Smugglers Inn on Avda Castilla Pérez , Nerja . They were actually the originators of the bar nearly 20 years ago , which they named after a bar they
had in Herne Bay . More recently they have been at Bar Genesis although I will always remember them at Stoker Browns in San Juan de Capistrano where I ate my first ever meal in Spain which although not Spanish was a delicious roast ! ( Ed ) They also had Bar 19 in Nerja for a while . Most importantly they will be doing their famous Sunday Roasts and Fridays will be Fish and Chip days . They will also have tapas from Monday to Saturday , and show all the football . The bar will close on Thursdays . Please see their advertisement on page 48 for more details .
Vinoleto take a break
Carmen at Vinoleto is taking her annual break this month and will be closed from November 1 , re-opening on Thursday November 16 . Pop in later in the month for one of her lovely tostadas , my favourite is the spinach and goats cheese ... or is it the prawns with mayonnaise sauce ? I ’ ll have to go and double check !
Clubhouse quiz
The Clubhouse in calle Los Huertos , Nerja , will be hosting a free fun quiz every Sunday night starting from November 5 . Be there for an 8:30pm start . For more details see their advertisement on page 46 .
