Tripletail Continued What do you see most anglers do wrong? Cast right on top of the fish. You want to cast pass and bring the bait to the fish. Also, a lot of fishermen will run and jump in front of the crab boat. See a fish and stop to catch it, then the crabber runs the fish over. You have to keep in mind that this is their lively hood. Not only that, it's their traps. The best thing to do is stay away from working crab boats and find another area. How many do you tag each year? Around 50 Why is it important to tag? We don't have much research on this fish. Any amount of research helps out a great deal. With the amount of pressure, in recent years, on tripletail; do you have concerns about the species in our area? Yes, but these fish come and go each year. Some years are better than others. The good thing is the fish grow fast and travel a good distance each year. I like the creel size of 18 inches. I do not like the creel limit of five a person with very little research on the fish. Mississippi is three fish and Louisiana is five fish. Why can't it be the same on both sides. I feel three fish or even two fish a person is reasonable, till more research is done. Why do you think they are such a popular species to target these days? They are great for dinner and as hot as it is this time of year, you can stay cool while hunting for them and still fishing. What's your favorite recipe for tripletail? Just use your best redfish recipe on it the same way. But you can not go wrong anyway you want to cook it. For more info or to book a trip with Capt.
