Preparing Your Own Gem Elixirs

By Anita Raquel Perez

What, you may ask, is a gem elixir? Simply put, it’s a potable liquid, usually water, that has been infused with the energy of a gemstone or crystal. The difference between a compound elixir and a simple elixir, is that a compound elixir has more than one gem or stone in it. Unless you are well versed in the uses of gems, it’s best to stick with making simple elixirs, and limit yourself to one type of stone at a time. Even if you decide to combine more than one variety of gemstone, keep it down to two or three, so as not to create a confused welter of energies.

There are several considerations when you prepare to make your elixir, and if you are going to do this yourself, you will need to do a bit of research. First, is your gemstone toxic? Make sure that you know whether or not this is so! Second, is your gemstone in it’s natural state? Many dealers/distributors dye stones, or “stabilize” them with a coating that fills fissures and makes them glossy and more appealing to the potential buyer. Remember, the salesperson may not have any idea of the truth, and may misinform you out of sheer ignorance- if not in their eagerness to make the sale. Don’t take their word for it! If you have any doubt about either of these particulars, or if the stone of your choice is set in metal, it can still be used, but a slightly different procedure must be followed.
