High School Reference 6 June 2017 Markus Geldenhuys, Identity Number 990105 5103 089, has been a Waldorf student for his entire scholastic career, thus far. He entered the Michael Mount Waldorf Nursery School in January 2005 and will complete his National Senior Certificate Examinations in December 2017. Waldorf education seeks to recognize the individual in every student. Therefore, no student is singled out above the other. The school does not have prefects or monitors, neither are colors awarded to students who excel in any respect. The integrated approach to learning offers countless opportunities for pupils to excel in their strengths. The learn- ing environment encourages discussions, debate, research and en- gagement with society’s issues and challenges. Markus is enormously popular at Michael Mount. He is polite, well-man- nered and a great help to his classmates and teachers. He is a very strong basketball player. He captained the Michael Mount team and represented both his school and South Africa nationally and internation- ally. Markus has been awarded his South African colors for basketball. Markus balances his very active life with a solid work ethic and we con- fidently expect him to achieve well in his forthcoming Matric examina- tions. Whilst in Grade 10, Markus participated in an exchange to Norway for three months. He matured through this experience and worked hard to “catch up” his work upon his return. Markus was a keen participant in the Class 10 Community Project, when for five days the class lived and worked in the Thanda After School Centre near Hiberdeen in Kwa-Zulu Natal. The class built a playground for the center, painted several buildings and taught the chil- dren how to paint. The class engaged with the children and spent many happy hours teaching them to play different games.
