Victoria Falls (Town)
The Town of Victoria Falls lies directly next to the Falls of the same name, located in the
western region of Zimbabwe, across the border from Livingstone, Zambia, and near
Botswana.
Besides exploring the rain forest of Victoria Falls, there are numerous land and water-based
activities to enjoy. Canoeing on the Zambezi above the Falls is a great opportunity to
encounter wildlife . A sunset cruise on the Zambezi River allows you to take in the most
beautiful golden African sunset reflecting off the water surface. A helicopter ride over the
Falls will give you a ‘bird’s eye view’ of the magnitude and scale of this natural wonder.
Visit the Victoria Falls Hotel for a colonial ‘high tea ‘and enjoy a magnificent view of the
Victoria Falls Bridge and gorge. Take an elephant ride or horseback safari through the
African bush, then shop in the Curio Market in the heart of the Town where you can bargain
for wood and stone carvings, bright African fabrics and fine hand-crafted jewellery.
Harare
Harare, the capital City of Zimbabwe, is beautifully located high up on Zimbabwe’s central
plateau. It is a city of modern buildings, wide thoroughfares, lush parks and gardens.
There is a strong appreciation for the city's cultural and historical heritage and a number of
heritage buildings have been preserved. The Mining Pension Fund Building at Central
Avenue and Second Street is one example of fine architecture from ‘yesteryear’.
To experience shopping the way it is traditionally done in African countries, stroll around
the open flea-markets at Mbare. Here you will find a colourful array of baskets, food,
clothing and other small handcrafted items.
Enjoy great views over the City from a famous landmark known as The Kopje, a granite hill
rising high above central Harare.
Great Zimbabwe
Great Zimbabwe is a ruined city with some of the most extraordinary manmade relics in
Africa. It is located in the rugged south-eastern hills of Zimbabwe near the town of
Masvingo.
The ruins at Great Zimbabwe are lofty, majestic and timeless. Built by indigenous African
people between AD 1250 and 1450, these master craftsmen took great pride in their work.
There is nothing to compare with it in southern Africa.
The two main areas of stone wall are the Hill Complex and the Great Valley Enclosure. The
stone walls, up to 6 meters thick and 12 meters high, are built from granite blocks without
