Addo Elephant National Park, only an hour by road from Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape, is rated as one of the best places in Africa to experience close encounters with elephant. It is one of the most diverse reserves on earth encompassing several ecosystems and boasts the BIG 5 - elephants, rhino, buffalo, lion and leopard. Addo Elephant National Park is the third largest national park in South Africa. Just 75 years after its proclamation to protect the 11 elephants that remained in the area, the Addo Elephant National Park is now world-famous where numbers have swelled to 450, one of the densest elephant populations in Southern Africa. The Marine section of the park includes Great White Sharks and Southern Right Whales making Addo the only reserve in the world that has the ‘Big 7’! The park includes the world’s largest breeding colony of Cape Gannets on Bird Island in Mandela Bay, and the second largest colony of African penguins. www.atctravel.co.za 59 Garden Route & Eastern Cape Addo Elephant Park
