Garden Route & Eastern Cape Oudtshoorn Oudtshoorn, the ‘Feather Capital of the World’ is located in the Karoo, less than an hour’s drive from the heart of the Garden Route. The Ostrich is the world's largest, flightless bird and is just one of the many attractions in this area of interesting contrasts. Ostriches are farmed in great numbers and the region produces the best feathers, leather products and ostrich meat worldwide. The 20 million year-old Cango Caves, near Oudtshoorn, consists of a series of hidden chambers cut deep into a thick limestone layer of rock.
