LAPD secured a five year subscription on the Axon
Officer Safety Plan, which provides both unlimited
storage of the digital evidence and a robust platform for managing the digital evidence collected
from the cameras and TASER devices- 4,400 of
those new licenses are on the OSP, and the remainder are on the Unlimited Plan. The Officer Safety
Plan includes camera upgrades every 2.5 years,
TASER upgrades every 5 years and full hardware
warranties. In this way, the LAPD is positioned to
ensure a high degree of budget certainty and the
best possible value for each technology across the
platform as the department develops its program.
“We are humbled to have been selected by the Los
Angeles Police Department after one of the most
intensive body camera competitive analysis and
field trials we have seen,” said TASER CEO and
Founder Rick Smith. “We appreciate even more
that their extensive and rigorous review concluded
that our technology platform was clearly the best
option, thanks to the extraordinary capabilities we
provide with our Axon network of connected devices and cloud software.”

“Our body camera program is beneficial to our cops
and the communities we serve,” said Los Angeles
Police Department Chief of Police Charlie Beck.
“Providing body cameras to 7,000 LAPD officers
will enable them to collect valuable digital evidence
in criminal investigations while promoting accountability and further building public trust. Moving forward with a program of this magnitude requires a

to have a responsive and collaborative partnership
with TASER. Utilizing their Axon platform, officers
will be taking advantage of cutting-edge technology
that will help us take on the challenges of 21st century policing.”
