SCORERS The Summertime Blues At the time of writing, we have already experienced a whole range of weather conditions. I do hope all our colleagues have managed to keep warm on some of those exceedingly chilly days early in the season, in some extremely draughty scoreboxes no doubt! And now, we have experienced a series of really rather hot and humid days. Scoring opportunities increase year on year. Being relatively new to the National Scorers’ Officer (NSO) role, I have found it quite a challenge to ensure that the appropriate personnel have been appointed to the appropriate high-level matches. Hopefully it has all worked out well thus far! Please make contact with your County Scorer Officer (CSO) or Regional Scorer Officer (RSO) if you 28 wish to advance on the scorer pathway and be able to take advantage of some of these opportunities. We have also managed to step up and help fill in when scorers were required at the last minute, which has been greatly appreciated by match managers in particular, but also the coaches and players. I receive a number of frantic 11th-hour emails and phone calls, and it is pleasing that ECB ACO can get the job done, whenever possible! Thank you to everyone who has been able to assist. This year’s National Conference will be held at Lord’s in October. It will be super to meet as many of you as possible. Please come along armed with enthusiasm and questions, and embrace the opportunity to mingle in particular with your scorer colleagues from all over! Unfortunately, the odds are that the scorebox will have been, or will about to be, demolished by then. If this is the case, we will not be able offer a chance to enjoy the best possible view.
