FROM THE PHILIPPINES SHARING THE FATHERS HEART FOR THE POOR We are learning to be carriers of the Father's heart, conveying his love to the poor, broken and hurting ones that God longs to see receive the salvation, healing, deliverance and restoration that his son Jesus made available through his work on the cross. By Peter and Helen Brown, Missionaries in Philippines We recently completed our first year here in Baguio with His Heart Ministries. It was a very challenging year in many ways, settling into a new culture and responding to a city and mission team environment. We are now getting to know many people here and their way of life, but we still have so much to learn. In our work we are learning to be carriers of the Father’s heart, conveying his love to the poor, broken and hurting ones that God longs to see receive the salvation, healing, deliverance and restoration that his son Jesus made available through his work on the cross. Initially we had five house churches to oversee, and this has now grown to nine through multiplication and new area plants. It’s exciting to see that the local leaders are passionate about reaching out to others and being willing to give their time and energy to this task. It 30 | EMPOWERED MAGAZINE is also encouraging to see the newer leaders developing and coming alive as they lead and support the house church members. The people love worshipping and experiencing God. Having a church in their neighbourhood empowers them to be shining lights and reach out to their neighbours. We plan to visit some new areas in the near future with a view to planting further house churches. When Peter recently preached at Street Church we were delighted that four men and one woman invited Jesus into their hearts. Many others also came forward for prayer to change things in their lives. It is wonderful to see the hope that Jesus brings transforms people’s lives. During May we received almost 400 applications for the child school sponsorship programme. While half of them are re-applications from children previously sponsored, the remainder are new applications from families, many of whom desperately need help to send their child to school. We are celebrating with the addition of 27 new sponsorships received during May and are now believing for a further 70 sponsors to cover all of the children on the waiting list. We are seeing at first hand how sponsorship makes a huge difference to their whole family. It is also a powerful way to show the love of Christ and bring hope into the children’s life for a better future. We are very thankful to all who have been interested in our work and are supporting us in various ways. For more about His Heart Ministries see: http://www.hisheart.org.nz
