KINGDOM INITIATIVES ANSWERING THE CALL Whangarei Church plant By Pastors’ Peter & Hannah Faumuina, Good News A/G Church, Whangarei, NZ Kia ora and Talofa lava from Whangarei, where we are Answering the Call! Planting a church has been something on our hearts for many years. But not really knowing the steps we needed to take to do this, we were content to serve in our local church and community. In early 2014 we had the privilege of attending a prayer day for the Christian organisation Hannah worked for. It was during this time of prayer and reflection that the Holy Spirit spoke to Hannah about Whangarei being the location for planting a church. Peter wasn't convinced, so Hannah pondered these things in her heart and left it up to the Holy Spirit to speak to Peter. Fast forward 18 months and we're running a youth camp with the theme "Answering the Call" from Jeremiah 33:3. While our heart’s desire was that our young people would have a fresh revelation of God's call for their lives and a surge of boldness to step out and pursue that call, little did we know God was setting us up for a season of new beginnings and the opportunity 10 | EMPOWERED MAGAZINE for us to fulfil his call on our lives to plant a church! The following week at the annual Pastors’ Conference God spoke to Peter very clearly about getting back on track with his call to plant a church. Over the course of the Conference we heard of the need for an A/G church to be planted in Whangarei. The look we gave each other was priceless! In our spirits we knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that this was meant for us! Between October 2015 and March 2016 we spent a number of weekends making the trip between South Auckland and Whangarei to pray/prophesy over the city and to look for a new place to call home. We relocated to Whangarei in the last weekend of April, and in May we were prayed out of our home church, Good News Family Church - Manurewa. As you can imagine, any season of change can be fraught with challenges. One source of encouragement God has used was our four year old daughter Melita, to speak timely words of wisdom to us, including songs about trusting in God and relying on his love and faithfulness. Despite doors appearing initially to be closed, we've seen the hand of God miraculously change things on our behalf in His perfect time, including * Hannah getting a transfer with her job as a social worker for Child, Youth and Family * Melita being enrolled at the local Christian daycare * A house that we can call home and start the church from In the midst of all this, God also blessed us with a much desired second child, due to arrive mid June, so 2016 will be a year of birthing for us, both in the natural and spiritual! A key Scripture that has held us during this season has been Isaiah 26:3, "You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you." We pray our journey of faith to plant a new church in Whangarei encourages you to find out God's calling for your life, and inspires you to take the leap of faith to make it come to pass. Love and Blessings in Christ, Ps Peter and Ps Hannah
