all have many, many stories of God at work in our lives. Can I encourage you to choose some of your stories, and allow the Holy Spirit to help you to be able to share your experience in 3 to 5 minutes? That is short enough for most social occasions and long enough to convey the most important details. The Apostle Peter tells us to “Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect…” (1Peter 3:15) “Be prepared…” means you’ll be able to make the most of your opportunities. I usually ask people about their story before I share mine. This not only demonstrates my care and concern for them, but often leads me to the right story that will best connect with them. I’ve been able to share some of my story with hundreds of people one on one in all sorts of circumstances and in all kinds of cultures, and most have not only felt encouraged by my interest in them but intrigued by the reality of my story and the impact it has had on me. While many did not immediately acknowledge Christ I know that my story was another ‘link in the chain’ that would ultimately help them towards the Saviour. This way of being a ‘witness’ to the goodness of Christ in what He has done in my life has been so much more productive than my earlier experience – and lots of fun too! Jesus used the power of story to reach the unchurched (gentiles). It can work for us too! “Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and resp ect…” (1 Peter 3:15 NIV). ISSUE #3 DECEMBER 2017 | 9
