Editor’s Note “For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many” - Mark 10v45 One of the things I love about my extended family is that when there is a gathering, event or task, we all pitch in to help out. As the saying goes ‘Many hands make light work’. This is hard when my own family is mostly made up of preschoolers, so usually the tasks fall to my husband or me, unless we give our boys small chores to do or help with. Recently, the boys have been enjoying helping to cook a meal one night a week. They all have various parts to play, and it is a joy to watch them get excited about something they may complain about when they are older. But right now, it is fun and exciting to serve the family in this way. I hope that attitude of serving continues in their lives. Romans 8:16 says “This resurrection life you received from God is not a timid, grave-tending life. It’s adventurously expectant, greeting God with a childlike “What’s next, Papa?” God’s Spirit touches our spirits and confirms who we really are. We know who He is, and we know who we are: Father and children” (MSG). We should always be joyously serving Jesus, telling others of Him, loving our neighbours, giving up our ‘selfish’ lives and pitching in as a family of Christ, because He paid the price for us. It might be helping someone with a project, buying them a coffee, cleaning the church or ministering to children on a Sunday morning. Whatever our service looks like, let’s be adventurously expectant for how we can listen to the Lord and serve as He served... willingly.
