The village was officially opened by the Mayor of Blackburn & Darwen, Councillor Salim Mulla with a high-profile delegation from the UK. The village includes 100 new container homes, a communal kitchen, education centre and a medical unit which will enable over 1,000 refugees to move from tents and camps into a more stable and suitable living environment. The Mayor of Blackburn & Darwen, Salim Mulla stated “The whole of UK should be proud and honoured to have a full village inside Syria. We have together achieved a landmark and a historic moment, as this is the UK’s first village inside Syria. The team of AlImdaad Foundation have done a fantastic job on the ground and I can tell you that more and more villages will be made with your support”. Inside Syria, the weather conditions currently is very severe and below freezing. During the opening of the village, the teams faced 7-8 inches of snow which demonstrates the dire need of moving the refugees from tents and camps into these container homes. AlImdaad Foundation visited another area inside Syria with over 11,000 refugees living in tents and camps with little or no heating.
