Intelsat continues to connect communities across Asia-Pac

BY MILLETTE MANALO-BURGOS
Intelsat ’ s Robert Cerbone is happy to share with show visitors all pertinent information about Horizons 3e .
At CommunicAsia2018 , Intelsat is highlighting Horizons 3e , the final Intelsat Epic high throughput satellite ( HTS ) slated for launch later this year .
One of the key features of this new satellite is its multi-port amplifier , which would allow the 3e to switch its unused power to other spot beams that need it more .
“ This would greatly benefit customers ,” Robert Cerbone , Intelsat ’ s vice-president and general manager for Media , tells Show News . “ We can meet their demands regardless of where they are in the beam footprint .”
With the inclusion of Horizons

3e , Intelsat Epic will be the first global HTS Ku-band system ; thus , the company has already contracted with mobile network operators to provide 3G-5G broadband connectivity for both developed and developing communities throughout Asia-Pacific .
With regards to new technology trends , Cerbone says that while Intelsat ’ s Asian customers continue to demand DTH services , there are also a number of emerging platforms launching in the region that the company are taking note of . “ We are going after a number of those and are very excited about that ,” Cerbone says . “ Similar to the rest of the world , there is an increasing consumption of non-linear content [ in Asia ]. OTT content happening in all kinds of mobile devices , we are monitoring that situation as well .”
Meanwhile , the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2018 is once again showing how broadcasters require “ robust and reliable ” solutions that ensure the quality and timeliness of live reporting .
The reliability and ubiquity of satellite contribution services , according to Intelsat , play a critical role in supporting TV live news reporting while helping content delivery networks navigate the growth in online video traffic .
Intelsat Epic , particularly , is supporting media customers by enabling them to access higher performance bandwidth , without replacing hardware .
Satellite technology will still continue to play a crucial role in broadcasting , and visitors to Communic- Asia2018 at the MBS Convention Centre are most welcome to visit booth 1S3-01 and check out Intelsat ’ s solutions that promises to connect everyone , everywhere — today and into the future .
