Ideal Systems demonstrating key technology building blocks

For systems integrator Ideal Systems , BroadcastAsia remains the key exhibition and conference event for its broadcast business in South-east Asia .
Fintan Mc Kiernan , CEO of Ideal Systems , South-east Asia , is anticipating a busy BroadcastAsia2018 , as he explains : “ Many of our customers from Singapore , Malaysia , Indonesia and further afield are coming to visit us at the show .
“ This year , we will have a wider selection of demonstrations than we have ever had at BroadcastAsia , supported by over 50 people from Ideal , and our partner companies . This is a great time for Ideal as we continue to grow the types of services and breadth of solutions that we provide to our customers .”
So , what can visitors expect at BroadcastAsia booth 6F4-04 ? A focus on the migra tion to IP and the cloud through the examining of the technologies needed to get there , Mc Kiernan asserts .
He urges visitors to check out solutions such as Embrionix ’ s SDI to IP emSFP-gateway family , which provides multiple practical interfaces to bridge SDI signals into IP . The modules are based on a small form factor ( SFP +) that can either be installed inside a standard 10GE IP switch , or inside third-party equipment with SFP cages .
Providing test and measurement solutions is Phabrix , which is bringing its top-of-the-range Qx series that is designed for next-generation hybrid IP / SDI environments using 4K / Ultra HD ( UHD ) 12G / 6G / 3G-SDI and HD-SDI , as well as SMPTE ST 2110 and 2022-6 .
Working with Embrionix and Phabrix , Bluefish444 is demonstrating SMPTE 2022 and 2110 video-over-IP playout from Kronos , the company ’ s next generation of PCIe video hardware , while monitoring 4K / UHD SDI video .
Bringing live connectivity in the field is Dejero , whose Gateway mobile connectivity solution is making a show debut . With connectivity being key to quickly transfer data between remote locations and the broadcast facility , Gateway facilitates collaboration and integrated workflows as if the field crews and home-based crews are working together in the same central location .
Moving along the technology
❝ Because of the acceleration in new technologies in broadcast , the possibilities are always advancing , and this is what makes this business so exciting .❞
— Fintan Mc Kiernan , CEO , Ideal Systems , South-east Asia and an APB Panellist
roadmap is Bitmovin , which has been one of the first movers in almost every significant recent development in online video . The company says it built and deployed the world ’ s first — and fastest — commercial adaptive streaming ( MPEG-DASH / HLS ) HTML5 player . Visitors can check out the company ’ s encoding , player and developer analytics products , which deliver HEVC / H . 265 , VP9 and AV1 Live and
video-on-demand ( VoD ) streaming at 60fps and 4K / UHD resolution .
For broadcasters keen to explore the possibilities of cloud technology , Blue Lucy is offering BLAM , a cloud hybrid media and operations management platform , which provides asset and workflow management through a simplified Web-based tool set . A recently added BLAM Adobe Premiere plug-in enables editors to access all features of the BLAM asset and management and workflow engine directly within the Adobe environment .
Ideal Cloud is also displaying a demonstration environment of a fully integrated production and playout platform , which realises content pipelines with triage for feeding cloud platforms . It also advises the mapping of media workflows for cloud native workflows , and how to prepare these workflows for the introduction of artificial intelligence ( AI ) and machine learning ( ML ).
Other partners working with Ideal Systems at BroadcastAsia2018 include : n Arista Networks , which is continuing its efforts to work with industry leaders and customers in the deployment of IP networking technology in the media and entertainment sector . The company is keen to address three key areas : real-time broadcast , editing and content distribution . n Exterity is showcasing an end-to-end 4K / UHD IP video solution
with the launch of the new 4K Avedia Player — the m9405 Media Player . n Signiant is highlighting how it is supporting nearly every file transfer use case in the industry through solutions such as Manager + Agents , the company ’ s flagship , on-premises solution for automated and accelerated file movement between geographically dispersed data centres . n Emotion Systems is addressing loudness compliance and more , with the Emotion Systems Engine , a flexible and scalable audio server . It can be used either for achieving medium to high levels of processing in an automated environment , or for providing cost-effective flexibility in large post-production facilities . n One of the world ’ s leading manufacturers of LTO tape archives , Qualstar develops and manufactures tape drives for the personal computer and workstation marketplaces .
Essentially , the Ideal Systems booth gathers an array of broadcast technology building blocks from which solutions can be crafted for end-users , Mc Kiernan emphasises . “ The real point , of course , is to understand what our customers really want ,” he continues . “ This is massively aided when our customers can see what is possible because of the acceleration in new technologies in broadcast . The possibilities are always advancing , and this is what makes this business so exciting .”
The Ideal Systems booth at BroadcastAsia2018 has a wider selection of demonstrations than ever before , and is addressing issues such as the transition to IP and the cloud .
