The project, managed by systems integrator (SI) GBS Alliance, comprises the installation of a total of 29 sets of 52/MX mixing consoles in the new facility. Centrally managed by four matrix core engines, the 52/MX consoles are integrated with DHD Audio’s audio, power and control (APC) technology on a single Ether net CAT cable to provide audio and control for the 29 studios. The 52/MX consoles also feature cus- tomisable functionality on the designated buttons of the mixing console desk, while TFT screens provide selection and switch- ing for the workflows during broadcast and production. Lye Foi Lieng, assistant vice-president, radio support, Media corp, explains: “DHD’s system offers customisation, and is adaptable for different workflows. Its high modularity allows a flexible combination of fader chan- nels and control modules for both our on- air and production use. Having both on-air and production studios with the same type of mixing desk surfaces is an advantage for daily operations.” In addition, Mediacorp required the installation to meet its design concept in centralising the system DSP (digital signal processor) cores in the apparatus room, so as to minimise the number of equipment installed inside the studios. Hence, GBS Alliance matched the broadcaster’s require- ments by installing the DHD Audio engine in the central room with the I/O modules in the studios. Each of the DSP core, Lye elaborates, is connected to the network switches via Eth- ernet cables for the transmission of audio, control data and power. This allows the I/O modules to be directly connected to a mixer control surface for visualisation, without hav- ing to turn to an additional media converter. Aron Cheong, project manager at GBS Alliance, concludes: “This decentralising sys- tem style allows the operator to easily deploy equipment across the facility instead of being restricted in an equipment frame, thereby providing ease of maintenance, control and deployment of equipment. All these factors enabled installation and configuration to proceed very quickly. “Mediacorp chose the right mixer for its new campus as the DHD Audio consoles provided greater workflow efficiency. For in- stance, users only needed a one-step process to operate the mixer function, saving time and enabling them to concentrate on their primary DJ role.” To find out more about the Media corp project, visit GBS Alliance at booth 4J2-01.
