18 BROADCASTASIA2016 SHOWDAILY 18 31 May 2016 Harmonic transforming future of video production and delivery A new-look Harmonic, having recently completed the acquisition of Thomson Video Networks, is showcasing a range of solutions aimed at bringing increased operational efficiencies and cost-savings to broadcast and multi-screen production and delivery. Harmonic’s VOS softwarebased media processing platform now comes with two new offerings — VOS Cloud and VOS 360. VOS Cloud enables content and service providers to manage the video production and delivery workflow for broadcast and over-the-top (OTT) applications via standard IT hardware, over public or private cloud infrastructure. The VOS 360 professional cloud media processing service (www. vos360.tv) provides operators with a software-as-a-service (SaaS) solution that is hosted in the public cloud, and maintained and monitored by Harmonic, enabling customers to launch revenue-generating, broadcast-quality OTT services “in a matter of minutes instead of months”, says the company. Through capabilities such as time-shift TV, video-on-demand (VoD) and cloud DVR, both VOS cloud offerings enable service providers to generate instant revenue, without the traditional Capex involved with building, maintaining and operating a new headend or data centre. Pay-as-you-go pricing for both offerings allows service providers to realise return on investment (ROI) in the shortest time possible, adds Harmonic. Visitors can also expect a 4K/Ultra HD (UHD) high dynamic range (HDR) demonstration, which will be enabled by the ViBE 4K/UHD real-time encoder and the ViBE VS7000 video system. The ViBE 4K and VS7000 are two new solutions that have joined the Harmonic product family as a result of the company’s acquisition of Thomson Video Networks. Harmonic’s VOS software-based media processing platform now comes with two new offerings — VOS Cloud and VOS 360. As part of the demonstration, Harmonic is using image from the NASA TV 4K/UHD channel to showcase the “breathtaking beauty” of space in high-resolution images and video created using an end-to-end 4K/UHD delivery system from Harmonic. At booth 5C3-01, Harmonic is also highlighting new capabilities for the ViBE 4K/UHD encoder, which delivers 4K/UHD low-latency, high-bitrate, HEVC/H.265 4:2:2 10bit encoding for 4K/UHD contribution applications. A demonstration at the booth is showcasing broadcast-quality HD contribution over the Internet Capture video with the Monarch LCS Matrox Video is highlighting the Matrox Monarch LCS, a lecture capture appliance that accepts video from any SDI or HDMI camera, as well as presentation content over HDMI from computers. The inputs can be encoded independently and in sync for use with the latest multi-stream video players. Alternatively, the inputs can be combined prior to encoding in a variety of production layouts, including picture-in-picture and side-by-side, for use with standard video players. Monarch LCS can be integrated into video management systems (VMS) such as Opencast and Kaltura and learning management systems (LMS) such as Moodle. For streaming purposes, the encoders use either RTMP or RTSP protocol to deliver live streams to local media servers or cloudbased CDNs. In recording applications, the encoders write MP4 or MOV files directly to network-mapped drives, eliminating the need for post-lecture file transfer, or alternatively to local USB drives or SD cards. Monarch LCS comes complete with a set of HTTP-based control APIs to create customised user interfaces. using Ellipse 3200 and ViBE CP6000 contribution encoders and the ProView 8100 integrated receiver/ decoder. When used together, Harmonic’s contribution encoders and IRDs provide the flexibility to utilise both satellite and unmanaged IP networks for contribution and distribution of content. For high-performance media storage, Harmonic is offering the MediaGrid 4000 scale-out shared storage solution, optimised for diverse media workflows and offers twice the performance of the MediaGrid 3000 system, as well as a 50% increase in storage capacity. Video’s Matrox Monarch LCS lecture capture appliance. Other Matrox products, such as the VS4Recorder Pro system, can be found at the Media Architects booth 4D2-14 and the Whiteway Systems booth 4D1-05. Each VS4Recorder Pro system frame-accurately captures up to four video and audio inputs to create files for use with editing apps from Adobe, Apple and Avid and for archiving.
