that will determine how quickly

entire broadcast chain?
Takahama: There is a rising trend
in the migration from HD to 4K/

understand the new opportunities
and advantages that 4K/UHD of-

and freedom to create stunning
footage. Some factors that might
affect the rate of adopting 4K/UHD
content include the availability of
4K/UHD content, costs, reliability
of network infrastructure, including bandwidth that affects footage quality, availability of 4K/UHD
ready equipment, and technical
standardisation, among others.

region are embracing the operational advantages of IP-based
infrastructures.
For example, Sony’s IP Live
Production System is able to broadcast quality 4K/UHD video, audio,
metadata and control data across
the IP network through a single
network cable. Designed to integrate seamlessly into existing
SDI infrastructure, Sony’s IP Live
Production provides broadcasters
increased efficiency, reliability and
scalability with reduced system
costs.
Recognising the transformative
benefits of IP for live production,
Sony has been committed to implementing IP technology at the
core of broadcast infrastructure for
15 years. Working with its customers, standardisation committees,
partners and competitors, Sony
aims to contribute to the standardisation of the relevant technologies,
alongside building a multi-vendor
IP live ecosystem to ensure interoperability.
This includes support for the
IP Live Alliance, which has grown
to 49 vendors across the live production space, as well as joining
the Alliance for IP Media Solutions
(AIMS), whose initiatives promote
the adoption of widely supported,
open standards to foster IP-based
interoperability and further industry migration to IP-based platforms.
