What are some of the 4K/UHD highlights visitors can expect at the Sony booth? Hiroyuki Takahama: At BroadcastAsia2016, Sony continues to accelerate the momentum to go Beyond Definition, showcasing our latest offerings in the field of HD, 4K/UHD and high dynamic range (HDR). The new additions join Sony’s existing products and solutions for multiple applications in broadcast and production industries. These include HD/4K/HDR cinematography production, news production, studio & live sports production, including IP transmission, and archive digitisation that targets various verticals, including education, corporate, houses of worship and high-end sports. Visitors are able to personally experience multiple 4K/UHD professional A/V technologies for production, including the PXW-Z450 XDCAM 4K/UHD shoulder-mount camcorder and PXW-Z150 XDCAM 4K/UHD handy camcorder; the Hiroyuki Takahama, assistant general manager, Content Creation Solutions Marketing, Professional Solutions Company (PSAP), Sony Corporation of Hong Kong (booth 5B4-01) , details Sony’s Beyond Definition vision, and highlights how the company can help broadcasters in Asia embrace 4K/Ultra HD and IP. 55-inch PVM-X550 OLED monitor; and the new XVS-6000 and XVS-7000, which together with the XVS-8000, creates a family of 4K/ UHD/IP professional production switcher systems. In Asia-Pacific, what do you think are some of the key factors that will determine how quickly 4K/UHD is adopted across the entire broadcast chain? Takahama: There is a rising trend in the migration from HD to 4K/ UHD with trial 4K/UHD broadcasting already under way in a number of countries globally. In Asia-Pacific, broadcasters understand the new opportunities and advantages that 4K/UHD of- fers, including new artistic scope and freedom to create stunning footage. Some factors that might affect the rate of adopting 4K/UHD content include the availability of 4K/UHD content, costs, reliability of network infrastructure, including bandwidth that affects footage quality, availability of 4K/UHD ready equipment, and technical standardisation, among others. Are broadcasters in Asia also ready to embrace IP-based infrastructures, and how is Sony helping to facilitate the transition to IP? For example, Sony’s IP Live Production System is able to broadcast quality 4K/UHD video, audio, metadata and control data across the IP network through a single network cable. Designed to integrate seamlessly into existing SDI infrastructure, Sony’s IP Live Production provides broadcasters increased efficiency, reliability and scalability with reduced system costs. Recognising the transformative benefits of IP for live production, Sony has been committed to implementing IP technology at the core of broadcast infrastructure for 15 years. Working with its customers, standardisation committees, partners and competitors, Sony aims to contribute to the standardisation of the relevant technologies, alongside building a multi-vendor IP live ecosystem to ensure interoperability. This includes support for the IP Live Alliance, which has grown to 49 vendors across the live production space, as well as joining the Alliance for IP Media Solutions (AIMS), whose initiatives promote the adoption of widely supported, open standards to foster IP-based interoperability and further industry migration to IP-based platforms.
