Calrec teams up with JAA . S at BroadcastAsia2017
At BroadcastAsia2017 , Calrec is co-exhibiting for the first time with JAA Systems ( JAA . S ) with both Brio and Summa consoles .
JAA . S is Calrec ’ s exclusive distributor for Malaysia , Singapore and Indonesia , providing local sales and service , including round-theclock phone support and other direct on-site support . With a proven track record in audio-mixing consoles for broadcast , JAA . S has more than a decade of experience in the industry , and have already extended their reach into the Philippines and Thailand .
“ Calrec is at the forefront of broadcast technology and is relied on by the world ’ s most successful broadcasters ,” says David Chan , director at JAA . S . “ Although Calrec has not been as well known in South-east Asia , the addition of the Brio console provides broadcasters with the same high-end feature sets and networking capabilities Calrec is renowned for , at an affordable price point . Our aim is to make Calrec just as successful in this territory too .”
In fact , in its first month , JAA . S sold the first-ever Calrec console into Malaysia with the installation of a Brio at 24-hour news and information channel Astro Awani .
“ Although Brio occupies a small footprint and is easy on the budget , it is a true broadcast mixer with the comprehensive feature set we need ,” says Rizal Ali , senior assistant vice-president , technical operationmanagement at Astro Awani . “ We had just six hours of downtime to switch from our old mixer to the Brio console . With the help of JAA . S , we were able to integrate the new console into our facility and bring it online very quickly .”

In addition , Malaysian broadcaster Media Prima has used Calrec ’ s compact Summa console for 5.1 surround coverage of its live broadcast of the Anugerah Juara Lagu ( AJL ) concert from the Putra World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur .

The Summa created the main 5.1 surround mix for AJL , which was broadcast live to a cinema hall in Malacca , Malaysia to enable the cinema audience to enjoy an immersive sound experience rivalling that of the audience at the live event . Calrec has both the Brio and Summa consoles at booth 6C3-01 . At only 892mm wide with a 36 dual-layer fader surface , Brio is the smallest in Calrec ’ s Bluefin2 family and is the most powerful and compact digital broadcast audio console in its class .

Calrec ’ s compact and elegant Summa console has the same screen interface as Brio , which simplifies even complex workflow tasks , such as creating mix-minus feeds . Bluefin2 gives Summa a pool of 180 or 128 channel processing paths , eight groups , four mains , 16 auxes and 32 tracks , while its Hydra2 router core provides Summa with the same integral router technology as the bigger Apollo and Artemis consoles .
