Not paying your check bin can result in all manner of outcomes and yet again the
media have been publishing reports on an attack on a customer for not paying his
check bin. But wait, let us think this through for a second, wasn’t this whole
situation avoidable? There seems to be this understanding that it is acceptable to
try not to pay after you have guzzled down your beers and bought lady drinks etc.,
there appears to be this mindset that if you kick off, the Mamasan will let it go,
well that just doesn’t happen here.
PAY YOUR BIN!
So, you are now the customer, and you are in a bar, wherever, it doesn’t matter. If you are given a bill for
your drinks then for goodness sake, pick it up and check it is correct! It takes seconds, and you will soon
notice if anything doesn’t look right. If you spot a mistake or don’t agree with your check bin, then talk to
the Mamasan calmly, and explain why you’re unhappy. But start shouting and kicking off isn’t
going to end nicely!
Think about this from all angles, what are the options for visiting a bar and your check bin? Option A) Pay
as you drink, that would soon get on your nerves coughing up every 10 minutes, as well as the service staff
having to run around giving change out, etc., far better to let you sit back and enjoy your evening. Option
B) Sign your bin every time a new drink is added, could this be an option, but then I am sure some clown
will sign their name a different way to try and sneak in a freebie. Option C) Check your bin as you drink
and have a great night out? I know which option works for me, and I have been in many gogo bars over the
years and n ever had any issues, but that’s just a personal experience!
As for the interaction of the security, yes excessive violence is unacceptable no matter what and that
cannot be condoned, but hey, before we all get jumping on the bandwagon, just remember this, you are in
Thailand! Rightly or wrongly, however, you may personally feel, Thai people while in general are lovely
people they are also very aggressive, it’s in their nature.
Also consider their job, security, they are there to sort the
problems out no one else wants to get involved in, and who
knows what they may face up to at any given time.
As I mentioned earlier, if you take a few seconds to check
your bin, chances are you will not end up in this situation,
and instead just have a great night out!
