Resident of the Month,
Velma Dablemont

Velma Dablemont was born
March 20, 1915, to Joe and Augusta
Lawerence in Franklin County, Mo.
She has two sisters and one brother.
Velma and her siblings attended
the Frisco Heights school in Moselle,
Mo., near the Frisco Railroad. She
remembers walking more than two
miles to school. Along the way, she
would have to climb over fences and
would watch the little pigs play.
Velma remembers the first time
an airplane flew over their school.

The teacher allowed the entire class
go outside and watch as it flew in
circles overhead. This was the first
time they would see an airplane and
the sight was magnificent.
Velma met and married Norten
Dablemont. The couple celebrated
numerous years of marriage. Velma
and Norten loved to travel. Their
adventures took them to places all
over North America. Velma even
had the opportunity to go fishing in a
bayou.
Some of Velma’s fondest moments
with Norten were spent on float trips
exploring the Gasconade River. Sadly,
Norten passed away in 2013 at the
age of 89.
On Friday, March 20, Velma
will be celebrating a major milestone, She will be turning 100 years
young and we will be celebrating at
2 p.m. that day!
Congratulations Velma for being
chosen as AGHCF’s March Resident
of the Month!
