Resident of the Month,
June Pursley
June Pursley was born on May 27,
1919, to Maude and Mr. LaLone in
Beaver, Wis. June grew up with three
sisters and three brothers. She
attended the Downer Grove School in
Illinois and graduated in 1938.
In her early 20’s, June married
John Edie. During World War II, June
served in the Division of the Buick
Company, where she worked on airplanes and became one of the infamous
Rosie the Riveters. Eventually, June
enlisted the WAAC division of the
Army and became a drill sergeant.
After enlisting, June became a surgical
nurse and moved to Springfield, Mo.,
where she worked at the O’Reilly
Hospital. During their five years of
operation, the hospital served more
than 100,000 wounded American soldiers and German prisoners. After John
passed away in 1945, June continued
to serve in the Army. At the age of 31,
June met and eventually married Bill
Pursley. After World War II, the

couple move to South Bend, Ind.,
where June earned her cosmetology
license and opened a beauty salon.
Bill worked for Studebaker Auto
Company. They spent 18 years in
Indiana before returning to the
Springfield area. Together the couple
celebrated 45 years of marriage. After
working 50 years as a cosmetologist,
June retired and started volunteering
at St John’s Hospital.
June enjoys playing golf, going
shopping, quilting, tailoring men’s
shirts, playing games, cards and fishing. She is an active member of the
Switzer United Methodist Church and
is very involved in different church
organizations. June has had the joy of
taking the Veteran’s Honor Flight to
Washington D.C., and visit the
Veterans’ Memorial wall, where her
name is engraved.
Congratulations June for being
chosen as AGHCF’s April Resident of
the Month for April!
