Min Woo Bang The Contact
Reflecting finely tuned technical skills as well as an
in-depth cerebral exploration, Min-Woo‟s
hauntingly beatific compositions are reminiscent of
both Eastern and Western painterly aesthetics.
Utilising a delicately balanced palette, the artist
poetically renders the surface of his canvas to much
critical acclaim.
Min Woo Bang‟s surfaces, lustrously built up
in oils, are both dramatic and subtle in their effect.
Sometimes an under-structure reveals itself behind a
small crack or running drip; these deliberate flaws
and uneven textures are reminders of the artist‟s
ongoing interests in the processes of time, the
fragility of memory and nature‟s disintegration.
The physical elements and forces of nature are
interdependent in these atmospheric landscapes and
the experience of nature‟s decay and transformation
is balanced by a deep, physical connection to place.
Min Woo Bang has been a finalist in numerous
national art awards and prizes, most recently the
prestigious King’s School Art Prize (2013),
Tattersall Landscape Art Prize (2014) and
Wynne Prize for Landscape (AGNSW) 2010.
