Jo in us for an evening with Keele’s youngest writing
talent, as our students step up to the mic and share
their latest work. On the night audience members are
encouraged to participate in Blind Date with a Book -
so bring a book, wrapped in paper so its contents is
a mystery with a description of the book in four words
for someone else to take home on a blind date at the
end of the evening.
Reading from his new book, This Is Me, Full Stop
(Penguin), Philip will reflect on the role the little dots,
strokes and squiggles called punctuation marks play
in our lives, inviting the audience to consider their own
punctuation practice and invent new “missing marks”.
Philip Cowell is the author of This Is Me, Full Stop
(Penguin) and Keeping A Journal (Sheldon Press).
His writing has appeared in The Guardian, BBC Culture,
Poetry Review and The Philosophy Shop. He has run
workshops at the Southbank Centre, Wilderness, and
Normal? Festival of the Brain, and is an associate of
the literature and dementia charity, Living Words.
Keele Writing events take place in the lavish University
Common Room in Keele Hall and feature readings from
poets and novelists of international standing. The events
are free of charge and open to all. They’re a must for all
passionate readers and lovers of literature. We hope to
see you there.
