grandmother. The grandmother had been her caregiver
since she’d been born five and a half years ago. And the
grandmother had been a teacher years ago, so she
taught her granddaughter many of the basics. The little
girl had a brilliant mind. She was far beyond her agerange in intelligence. The tyke was very much aware that
her life was about to change forever.
The kind young lady sat down at the table beside the
little girl and told her that her mommy and daddy had
been in a very bad accident. The little girl reached out
her small hand and touched the woman’s fingers. The
woman instantly leaned toward the child, gently cradling
her within her arms. The child cried silently for a few
moments, then turned her tearful eyes upward and
asked the lady, “Where am I going to live?” The young
social worker said she would be going home with her and
her husband for the night, and that they would talk
about it more tomorrow.
The drive to the young woman’s home was not too
long. The little girl had fallen asleep, and when they
arrived, gentle arms carried her into a warm home; but
