Beauty

by Lois A. Tanner

You ask me to describe beauty; yet, you'll not see as I do,

For each person sees splendor from a much different view,

For me it is roses, their petals clad in a fresh morning dew,

Or the fog in the valley, lying heavy in a coat of gray hue,

The fawn's coat of amber and white, as it hides in the shade,

Cow's marching home to the barn, like toy soldiers in a brigade.

Magnificence is in stars, by the thousands, lighting up the sky,

But, equally splendid, is a solitary beacon from a lone firefly.

An ocean of gold wheat, as it bends and sways with the wind,

An isolated footprint, left alone to represent all of mankind,

The cry of the hawk, as it sails the air, made to its mate on the nest,

And sunsets, in purples and gold, that kiss the world and put it to rest.

Grander is in the heavens, as the storm clouds roll and shout,

Or in the tender green glades of grass found anew, after a forest burns out.

Beauty is found in the dance made by each escaping seed of milkweed;

It's living in the miracle that each plant rebirths itself from a tiny seed.

Loveliness lives in all of creation, in shades, scents, views, and sound.

Each minute brings brilliance, as the planet breathes and it bounties abounds.
