Raphael
Raphael Sanzio was born in Urbino on 6 April
1483 in the family of Giovanni Santiti, an artist
and poet in the courtyard of the local Dukes.
Under the Duke of Guidobaldo to
Montepultero and his wife Elisabeth Gonzaga,
the city is among the leading Italian centers of
literature and art. Raphael grew up in the
Duke's court, where he acquired his manners
and communication skills highlighted by Vasari.
