Winner of the Tony Award for Best Play and selected for the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, the Broadway
production of Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf was a shattering, memorable experience and proclaimed
Edward Albee as a major American playwright.
A professor and his wife have just returned home, drunk from a Saturday night party. They have invited a young couple—an opportunistic new professor and his naïve new bride—to stop by for a nightcap, and when they arrive the charade begins. Inhibitions melt as the drinks flow, and it becomes clear that Martha is determined to seduce the young professor. But underneath the edgy banter lurks an undercurrent of tragedy and despair. George and Martha's inhuman bitterness toward one another is provoked by the secret they have pledged to keep to themselves.
The Lauren-Reilly Eliot Company’s recent productions include Lend Me A Tenor, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Death of a Salesman and MFER with the Hat.
