SYNOPSIS

The American classic two-act play, written by Tennessee Williams, revolves around the Wingfield family, living in St. Louis during the Depression. Described as a memory play, the story unfolds as Tom, the narrator of the story, and also a character within the play, recalls the time in his family's life that marked a turning point for what would become their futures. Tom’s mother, Amanda, a faded southern belle abandoned by her husband long ago, uses her son, Tom, a warehouse worker with the heart of a poet, to help her find a gentleman caller for her daughter, Laura, whose fate in life seems to be sealed by her shyness and her crippled leg. When events don’t turn out as Amanda planned, their world fractures like bits of broken glass.

The play is considered to be the author’s most important work as it is reaches the depths of human emotions and speaks to the fragile nature of the human spirit. It is partially autobiographical and was a critical success on Broadway and in film.
