We asked Zilia: What are your sources of inspiration in the following areas?
Her home country of Brazil: the sun
France: the culture, the gardens, the romanticism. I have always loved France because of its art and culture, and I have always dreamed of studying here
The arts and making sculptures: films, dreams, exhibitions, nature, love, music (I always listen to Chopin when I sculpt – this really transports me - but I also enjoy Bach, Beethoven and Mozart), Oriental paintings, Camille Claudel, Rodin, Antoine Bourdelle, turning my sculptures into “paintings you can touch”
Travelling: nature, discovering the history of new places (especially from the 19th century)
Hobbies: cinema, going to museums
Friendship: altruism
Love: dedication
Family: union with my children; the respect and admiration I have for them
Her fellow human beings: the vulnerability and sensitivity I see in others
A current project: being an art therapist. One day I read a book called The Man Who Mistook His Wife For A Hat: And Other Clinical Tales by Oliver Sacks and there was a case study about a woman with cerebral paralysis who had never used her hands until the doctor give her some clay to model…and she was able to make such marvelous sculptures. I was absolutely amazed and it inspired me to study art therapy. It made me realize that art has another function: helping and healing people.

Son pays natal, le Brésil : le soleil
La France : La culture, les jardins, le romantisme. J’ai toujours aimé la France pour son art et sa culture, et j’ai toujours rêvé de venir étudier ici.
L’Art et la sculpture : les films, les rêves, les expositions, la nature, l’amour, la musique (j’écoute toujours du Chopin quand je sculpte, il me transporte littéralement, mais j’apprécie aussi Bach, Beethoven et Mozart), les peintures orientales, Camille Claudel, Rodin, Antoine Bourdelle, faire de mes sculptures des « peintures que vous pouvez toucher »
Le voyage : la nature, découvrir l’histoire de nouveaux lieux (et plus particulièrement du XIXe siècle)
Les loisirs : le cinéma, les musées
L’amitié : l’altruisme
L’amour : le dévouement
La famille : l’union avec mes enfants, le respect et l’admiration que j'ai pour eux.
Ses semblables : la faiblesse et la sensibilité que je vois dans les autres
Un projet en cours : devenir art-thérapeute. J’ai lu un jour un livre appelé The Man Who Mistook His Wife For A Hat: And Other Clinical Tales (L'homme qui prenait sa femme pour un chapeau) d’Olivier Sacks, et dedans on étudiait le cas d’une femme souffrant de paralysie cérébrale qui n’avait jamais utilisé ses mains jusqu’à ce qu’un docteur lui donne de l’argile à modeler… elle a alors pu réaliser des sculptures vraiment fantastiques. Ça m’a totalement époustouflée et c’est ce qui m’a poussée à étudier l’art-thérapie. Je me suis rendue compte qu’une des fonctions de l’art était aussi d’aider et de soulager les gens.
