Henry Ford Hospital or The Flying Bed, currently part of the Dolores Olmedo Museum in Mexico, is one of the most personal and powerful self-portraits painted by the artist in 1932. It was created after her second miscarriage during her trip with Diego to the United States, between November 1930 and December 1933. Frida expresses in this painting her physical and emotional pain following the miscarriage as well as the sense of discomfort she felt while staying in the city of Detroit.
Henry Ford Hospital ou Le lit volant, conservé au musée Dolorès Olmedo de Mexico, est l’un des autoportraits les plus personnels et les plus poignants peint par l’artiste en 1932. Il fut réalisé à la suite de sa deuxième fausse couche lors du séjour de Diego et de Frida aux Etats-Unis, entre novembre 1930 et décembre 1933. Frida exprime à la fois sur cette œuvre sa douleur physique et émotionnelle à la suite de sa fausse couche mais aussi le malaise qu’elle éprouve pour la ville de Détroit.
