In addition to these responsibilities, Janda is a frequent lecturer on Cuban art and culture and serves on the Miami Beach board of Art in Public Places, responsible for the acquisition and placement of art in the city’s public spaces. Carolina Sardi is an Argentinean sculptor established in Miami since 1995. She earned her Master Degree in Sculpture at the National University of La Plata. Some of her solo exhibitions include: Panamerican Sardi Art Projects Gallery in Miami and Dallas, Lelia Mordoch Gallery in Paris, Hazan Projects Gallery in New York; Blue at the Government Center Gallery from Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs ; Over/Under at Flashpoint Gallery in Washington DC; Bee at Mia Gallery, Miami International Airport; Imaginary Lines at the Museum of the Americas in Washington DC . Carolina Sardi is represented in Miami by Panamerican Art Projects Gallery. Allan Shulman is an architect that founded Miami-based Shulman + Associates in 1996. His work is widely published, and has been honored with 58 design awards. Shulman is also an author, editor, lecturer, curator Shulman and associate professor at the University of Miami School of Architecture. Gustavo Spokoiny, LEED AP BD+C, serves as the Director of Design Development and Construction Administration for 13th Floor Investments. Mr. Spokoiny has over twenty five years of experience in Spokoiny architecture and construction administration. Most recently, Mr. Spokoiny served over eight years as a Project Manager at Arquitectonica International, in Miami. Mr. Spokoiny holds a Master’s Degree in Architecture from the School of Planning and Architecture from the University of Buenos Aires, as well as graduated from ORT Technical Schools. SUNDAY, JANUARY 17 1PM Lecture: Preservation and Climate Change, by Daniel Ciraldo, Preservation Officer, MDPL Addressing the complications and opportunities for preserving historic resources in a time of sea level rise and climate change. Daniel Ciraldo is Historic Preservation Officer for the Miami Design Preservation League. In 2012, he helped launch efforts to stop historical single-family homes from being demolished and replaced Ciraldo with McMansions. His work with MDPL focuses on promoting smart planning policies to protect Miami Beach’s unique heritage. Daniel is the team lead for the Architecture, Preservation, and Planning group of the FIU/Miami Beach Sea Level Rise initiative. MDPL was honored by the Chamber of Commerce for its activism in preserving Miami Beach’s character as part of the 2nd Annual Better Beach Awards. 3PM Lecture: Deco District through the Decades Dr. Paul George, History Miami This is the second lecture of the “Decades of Stories Centennial Series” that will run throughout 2015. MDPL Public Historian Jeff Donnelly will lead this discussion. The talk will cover important events happening locally and around the world during this decade. These topics include the arrival of Art Deco in Miami Beach, 1936 hurricane, and World War II. Dr. Paul George, a native Miamian, is a Professor of History at Miami Dade College’s Wolfson Campus and historian at HistoryMiami. For over twenty years, he has led the wildly popular History Miami city tours George program which includes history tours of Miami-Dade, Broward, Monroe and Palm Beach Counties.
