ADW 2017 PREVIEW
MIAMI DESIGN PRESERVATION LEAGUE
CELEBRATES 40 YEARS
OF ART DECO WEEKEND
I
n 2017, the Miami Design Preservation
League will host the 40th Art Deco Weekend
festival on Ocean Drive. In the late 70s, the
Miami Design Preservation League (MDPL)
made history by calling attention to the Art
Deco buildings that lined Ocean Drive and
filled much of South Beach by spotlighting them
during a weekend festival.
It didn’t happen overnight, but it happened.
The city’s beloved Art Deco architecture has
not only been saved, it’s put Miami Beach on
the worldwide map as a glamorous, tropical
holiday destination and a dream-come-true
place to live and do business. But historic
preservation, like sand castles and barrier
islands, requires constant vigilance to survive.
Today, the MDPL, founded to save the Art
Deco neighborhood, throws this community
cultural festival to celebrate architecture,
preservation, education, history, advocacy,
art, entertainment and the Miami culture we
all love.
Join us on January 20 - 22, 2017 to celebrate
Art Deco Weekend’s 40th Anniversary!
