Art Chowder: What message or idea (if Art Chowder: Can you tell us about one of these lessons? any) do you hope to get across with your art? daniel: When I first moved here I was living in Browne’s Addition. I didn’t know daniel: My street art has a huge spectrum because a lot of it is community oriented. I’m hoping to beautify the area one wall at a time. I’ve got so much to say when people don’t have time to listen, so I show them. anyone, and it was a really long, cold winter. Being an artist and showing pain is really easy to do, but showing beauty in that moment? That’s the ticket right there. I think I had two or three pictures that, to me, stood out as something more beautiful. I can remember how lonely, cold and grey that whole time was but it taught me that there can still be beautiful moments — when things aren’t that grey. Portraying that instead of all the pain, was a good lesson for me. Art Chowder: Sounds like a good lesson for everyone. Do you have artists you In my more personal work, I try to point out current issues I’m having in my own life. Being transparent so others are comfortable with themselves and know they aren’t alone. Other people go through the same stuff they do. Although I’m sure most of what I’m doing in my personal art might go over some people’s heads, I still try to hit the mark. admire, or look up to? The art schools here are amazing, but in modern America everyone seems to just want to learn it and get through it, as opposed to wanting to take their time to create a beautiful thing. In Europe they just really put their heart and soul into it. I’ve always wanted to go sketch all those old buildings and statues they’ve spent years creating. Imagine spending a year on one thing! inspiration? daniel: I look for inspiration in life. Life has a way of teaching, if you are open to its lessons. 14 ART CHOWDER MAGAZINE daniel: European muralists Sanier and Bezt Etam have always been an inspiration to me because of their huge works of art and amazing light sources in their pieces. Osgemeos (the twins) are two brothers. They’ve inspired me to be a little different, let’s say. Also German graffiti artists Daim and Loomit were influences growing up. Their awesome design work mixed with fine art and graffiti always amazes me. Art Chowder: Would you go to Europe if you could? daniel: Yes.
