We have as much talent here in our region as anywhere in the world. This however does not mean we should only focus internally. There are a lot of amazing stories to tell and things to learn from artisans from outside our area. I was invited to Spokane’s Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture [MAC] for the opening of two exhibits recently — Into the Arctic by Cory Trepanier and Luminous, an art glass exhibit including works from Dale Chihuly and other world-class glass artists. I was transfixed by both exhibits. I spoke to Cory for quite a while and learned some of the details and experiences of trying to paint in below-zero and ever-changing weather conditions. His works capture the arctic like many of us will never see. It is worth your time to see it before the closing date of May 12th. Luminous is another exhibit that leaves you breathless. The glass works you will see in our own museum are only surpassed if you see them in Seattle at the Chihuly Museum; many on display here will not be on display there. Luminous runs through June 23rd. We thank the museum Executive Director Wesley Jessup and look forward to more of what the MAC holds in store for future exhibits. If these two are any indication you better renew those memberships! Thank you, Dean Cameron 4 ART CHOWDER MAGAZINE
