REGIONAL REPORT
SPOKANE ARTS COMMISSION
In any category, community members can nominate an
artist, volunteer, neighborhood, educator, organization,
community leader, donor, business or any other entity that
deserves recognition. Emerging or established, young or
old, on the edge or in the center — any nomination that
celebrates the wealth of participation in Spokane’s arts
ecosystem is welcome.
Here’s a primer on each category
Leadership — Positive and consistent
advocacy; a role model for others in the arts;
a venture culturalist; excellent stewardship of
resources
Collaboration — Creating and supporting
partnerships; sharing resources; finding shared
solutions; brings new meaning to the phrase
“democratic participation”
Inclusion — Enacting just and diverse
community; building bridges across divides;
proactive approach to accessibility and
inclusion
Imagination — An energizing and inspiring
presence; jaw-dropping creativity; sky’s-
the-limit approach; excellent execution of
innovative ideas
Organizers say that this year’s Arts Award event will
feature live music and poetry, the presentation of the
Arts Awards, a photo booth, hors d’oeuvres, arts-themed
cocktails, and more. They plan to incorporate a red carpet
and encourage attendees to dress to the nines. One change
from last year is the date: while the 2017 event concluded
October Arts Month, this year the Arts Awards will
function as a kickoff, taking place one week before major
events like the Fall Arts Tour and Terrain.
