North Texans of All Ages
It seems like only yesterday that
Michael had it all — a family, a
steady job with a heating and air
conditioning company, a nice
house and few financial worries.
But these days, Michael’s life
looks much different.
While he and his wife had
experienced some financial
difficulties after their car was
damaged in an accident, they
were grateful to have each other
and their precious daughter.
Eventually they lost their home
and many of their possessions,
but continued their hope for a
better future.
But then Michael’s beloved wife
passed away, and a short time
later, his daughter also died.
Devastation doesn’t begin to
describe what Michael endured.
“The people
receiving the
food really
need it.”
Still grieving from these tragedies
years later, Michael now lives
alone in South Dallas. Because
he’s disabled, his only income
arrives in the form of a monthly
assistance check, which is too
small to cover both his housing
costs and his need for nutritious
food.
After dialing the assistance
hotline 2-1-1 for help, Michael
learned about Our Community
Pantry, a client-choice pantry
operated by the North Texas Food
Bank. Through this resource, he
has access to fresh groceries —
like milk, eggs and fruit.
Because he has no one else to
turn to for help, Michael is very
grateful that this pantry exists.
With just a short walk from his
home, he can receive everything
he needs to supplement his tiny
food budget, something that
wouldn’t be possible without
your generous support.
“Thank you,” Michael says. “The
people receiving the food really
need it.”
