Feeding Hungry
Children This Summer
While many children look forward to summer vacation
because of a break from school, for some children here in North
Texas, summer days mean something else — hunger.
Children in struggling families depend on the healthy breakfast
and lunch provided daily during the week at school. Without it,
many are at serious risk of going without food. In North Texas,
one in four children may not know where they will get their next
meal. These 300,000 hungry children need our help, especially
during the summer months.
That’s why I’m so grateful for your support of the North
Texas Food Bank. Inside this newsletter, you’ll meet Sally*, a
mother of four who found the Food Bank after losing her job;
Ralph, a single parent trying to make ends meet; and other
families like theirs. Thanks to friends like you, they won’t have
to endure a long summer of hunger.
You can have twice the impact when you give by July 31.
That’s because our generous friends at the David M. Crowley
Foundation and the Light of Dawn Foundation have offered
a $300,000 Matching Opportunity. That means every $1 will
provide six meals!
Your compassionate support ensures that children and
families in our community receive the healthy food they need
during the summer months. Thank you for building a better
future for North Texas, starting with our children.
Gratefully,

Your support helps a struggling family survive
after losing a job and their home
After losing her job, Sally* and her husband
worked hard to stretch their income. But with four
children, they struggled just to survive.
Then, the unthinkable happened.
“We lost our house,” she explains. “We were
told to move out. We had no backup plan. We were
technically homeless.”
Luckily, the family found a place to rent, but
living as a single-income family, they simply
could not afford nutritious food. With a very small
budget for groceries, it was hard for Sally to find
inexpensive, healthy food for her growing children.
During the summer months, it becomes even harder.
Two of Sally’s children receive free breakfast
and lunch at school. But in the summer, they simply
don’t have enough food for everyone.
Thankfully, Sally found one of the North Texas
Food Bank’s Partner Agencies just in time.
“The pantry has been here for us,” she says.
“They have healthy food options, like fresh
vegetables. It has helped us make ends meet.”
In North Texas, many families like Sally’s
cannot afford the healthy food they need to
survive during the summer months.
Assistance from the Food Bank is absolutely
critical to families like Sally’s.
“Thank you for helping us to survive,”
she says. “And thank you for providing us with
our dignity.”
Please continue to give generously to the Food
Bank to ensure that the shelves at our Partner
Agencies will be stocked with healthy food for
Sally’s family and many more neighbors in need.
