Town hall

Ealing Town Hall , the Grade II listed building at the heart of Ealing town centre , is due to close at the end of 2017 for a two-year development programme . Subject to planning permission , it will refurbish and restore the east wing of the neo-gothic building for council meetings , weddings and other civic use . The west wing would become a boutique hotel . The programme will preserve the town hall ’ s heritage while making it fit for the future ( see Around Ealing , autumn 2016 or search ‘ town hall ’ on ealingnewsextra . co . uk ). As Around Ealing went to press , the council was finalising a contract with developers to carry out the work . Detailed plans are being drawn-up and will be subject to planning permission . Council meetings , councillors and services based in the town hall will have to move out while the work is done . Check ealingnewsextra . co . uk for the latest news .

Warren Farm sports plan

A judge has supported Ealing Council ’ s decision to grant planning permission for QPR to build a football training ground and community sports facilities on Warren Farm in Southall . Mr Justice Dove rejected an application for a legal review made by Hanwell Community Forum and confirmed that the council acted appropriately . Council leader Julian Bell said : “ Once the site is up-andrunning , QPR will implement a significant community sports development programme which focuses on encouraging local people , particularly young women , older people and people with disabilities , to get involved in sport . The club will also be responsible for on-going maintenance of the new facilities , with no cost to taxpayers or the council .” Included in the approved plans were football and cricket pitches for community use , a new artificial turf pitch and multiuse games areas suitable for sports such as netball and tennis . There will also be new changing rooms and a clubhouse . The planning decision had already been confirmed by the Mayor of London and the Secretary of State .
